About Me.

As a part of my Media and Communications degree at Deakin University one of the studies offered as apart of the degree is, Contemporary Australian Cinema with Deb Verhoeven as the unit chair. The last assignment consists of answering a research question and preparing, publishing, and linking an online essay with text, sound, and images to other students work that complements the topic given, to online sources and to the information gathered in the BONZA database.

I chose to write about how the suburban cinema Plaza Cinema Croydon has been able to be competitive as an independent cinema against the multiplex chains such as Hoyts and Village Cinema by choosing to deliver movies in a different way. Plaza Cinema Croydon has chosen not to change to digital screens and projectors.

The Croydon Plaza Cinema has changed hands, closed and reopened several times during its life. How can a family run cinema be viable in today's market?

This essay will discuss the digital debate, the pros and cons of being a small independent suburban cinema, being the two things that make Plaza Cinema Croydon stand out against their competitors.
